Esquire, Inc. - Famous Magazine

Beautifully engraved specimen certificate from the Esquire, Inc. dated 1978 - 1979. This historic document was printed by the Columbian Banknote Company and has an ornate border around it with a vignette of an allegorical man holding a scroll and feather pen. This item has the printed signatures of the company's President and Secretary is over 22 years old.

Esquire, celebrated for its strong literary tradition, offers pieces on diverse topics--from politics and health to fashion and the arts--by the finest journalists and authors working today. The magazine has always been a showcase for writers, beginning in the '30s with Ernest Hemingway and F. Scott Fitzgerald. Today, it continues to publish such writers as Tom Wolfe, Norman Mailer and Gay Talese, who pioneered the so-called New Journalism in the pages of Esquire in the '60s.

Esquire, Inc. published Esquire Magazine, Coronet, and the Gentlemen Quarterly. The primary source of revenue in the publishing business is from advertising and that it is the policy of the average magazine to keep subscription rates low in order to build up circulation, thereby enhancing the value of the publication as an advertising medium.
