Beautifully engraved Check from the L. H. Hershfield and Brother Banking House Check issued in 1880. This historic document was printed by the American Banknote Company and has an ornate border around it with a vignette of a woman holding a scale. This item is hand signed by L. H. Hershfield and is over 125 years old. The Merchants National Bank of Helena, Montana, was originally established as L.H. Hershfield and Co. in Virginia City, Montana Territory, and for many years operated as L.H. Hershfield and Brother. It went into receivership in 1897. L.H. Hershfield was also one of the partners who formed the Yellowstone National Park Transportation Co. that was incorporated May 20, 1892 with capital stock of $250,000. The company was later managed by the the Yellowstone Park Transportation Co. in 1898.
