Certificate Vignette
Bounties were paid to encourage enlistment in the Union Army
during the Civil War. These bonds were issued to help pay for these costs. Lucius Robinson (1810-1886) of Elmira, Chemung County, N.Y. Born in Windham, Greene County, N.Y., November 4, 1810. Member of New York state assembly, 1860; New York state comptroller, 1862-65, 1876; candidate for U.S. Representative from New York, 1870; Governor of New York, 1877-80; Died in Elmira, Chemung County, N.Y., March 23, 1886.
