RARE (possibly Unique) Space Station Hologram Prototype Stamp Die used for "The Space Station Hologram Stamped Envelope". The stamp, issued in 1989, features a futuristic image that changes colors depending on the direction and intensity of the light. Depicted on the stamp portion of the envelope is a U.S. space shuttle preparing to dock at an orbiting space station. The station has eight docking spaces, seven of them already occupied. Behind the shuttle is a cratered planetary body with another planet in the distance. Also pictured are two astronauts floating in space. "USA 25" is at the left side of the envelope in a simulated digital typeface. This was the first holographic process used by the United Stated Postal Service. This die was from the archives of the American Banknote Company and is slightly different than the final stamp used by the USPS. This is a great piece of U.S. Postal History. Also included are two First Day of Issue Stamped Envelopes.
