Suisun is in an area of agricultural land in Solano County of Central California. The name was derived from a local Indian tribe and was applied to the area before 1800. In 1859, Robert H. Waterman, a famous captain of famous clipper ships, lived in a house west of Suisun that was modeled after the prow of a ship. He donated land for a new city which he named after his hometown of Fairfield, Connecticut. The water company was started to provide water for agricultural irrigation and for domestic use in the new town of Fairfield
